Between the two wars, La Bourboule welcomed a French and foreign bourgeois clientele in the Massif du Sancy. It was one of the most important spa towns, on a par with Vichy. Its architecture, its houses and the Fenestre park bear witness to these prosperous years.
After the war, thanks to Social Security, the town became the most important spa resort specializing in respiratory care for children and adults. It reached its peak in the 1970s.
